Janice Lynne Lundy, D.Min. ~ Spiritual Guide, Mentor and Educator
     Training and Qualifications

Picture
My official training as a Certified Spiritual Director began in 2000. I participated in and graduated from a comprehensive 3-year training program for Spiritual Directors through the Dominican Center at Marywood in Grand Rapids, MI. I am an educator with a BA in "The Academic Study of Religion" from Western Michigan University. I taught "World Religions" and "Philosophy" for many years in public education. I hold a Doctor of Ministry degree in Spiritual Direction from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Mishewaka, IN.  In 2017, I co-founded The Spiritual Guidance Training Institute with Dr. Jeanette Banashak. We specialize in the training of spiritual guides (directors) with an interfaith/interspiritual focus.

Today, I meet one-on-one with individuals for spiritual guidance (direction/mentoring) in person in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, MI., and long distance internationally, via telephone or Skype. My professional, spiritual guidance practice is interfaith/interspirtiual, welcoming people of all faith traditions, no faith tradition, and "spiritual, but not religious." In our sessions, it is common for us to focus on practices sourced in the world's wisdom traditions: mindful awareness, contemplation, meditation/prayer, loving-kindness, and compassion, including self-compassion to bring us into inner harmony and awareness of the Sacred. I have been in private practice for 15 years.

Since 2003, I have also served as adjunct faculty at The Center for Spirituality at Dominican Center in Grand Rapids, Mi. I work as an official supervisor/mentor in the Spiritual Directors Training Practicum and as a spiritual director at silent retreats.

I also "specialize" in companioning those in the helping, healing professions, including spiritual directors, clergy, and lay leaders in my private practice. As someone who has served the spiritual community for many years, I intimately know the stressors and strains of leadership. I've learned firsthand that the rigors of service can take a toll on our health and well-being, as well as the vital nature of maintaining a steady spiritual practice and employing "Extraordinary Loving Mindful Self-Care," so we operate at our best.

Additionally, I have been successfully guiding and companioning others (especially women) from all walks of life toward greater spiritual health through my writing, teaching, and speaking. I have authored seven spiritual growth books, and am a nationally recognized seminar and retreat leader. I have offered hundreds of online and in-person spiritual growth programs for women over the years. My service in this way began in 1994. For fourteen years, I was a nationally syndicated magazine columnist, writing on the topic of "spirituality & lifestyle" for Women's LifeStyle Magazine. Today, I am a regular contributor to the blog at Spiritual Directors International website.

I  believe I am uniquely qualified to journey with people of all spiritual/religious traditions—and I have. I am a long-term student of contemplative practices and mindfulness. In 2008, I began formal studies with meditation teacher, Sylvia Boorstein. Our focus was mindfulness and Metta Meditation (Loving-kindness practice). In 2010, Sylvia encouraged me to begin teaching Metta. I have and still do, online and in-person.

Life experience may serve as the "greatest "teacher of all" for me, and many women have remarked that I have gone through everything a woman can go through, including health challenges, miscarriage, infertility, divorce, career and financial loss, re-marriage, step-mothering, loss of dear loved ones, spiritual darkness, and more. In that, I practice what I teach and am living proof that one can endure severe hardship, heal, and live with joy—no matter what has happened (or is happening) in one's life.

For the last two decades, it has been my pleasure to companion and guide people from all over the world, from all walks of life and all spiritual persuasions, into greater spiritual well-being. I do so with the highest ethical standards and integrity knowing that to journey with someone's soul is the most blessed calling of all. I am grateful for the privilege.
