At-Home Retreat Kits
A Metta (Lovingkindness) Retreat Kit:
"Cultivating a Heart of Compassion"
Full day retreat, 6 - 8 hrs.
"Metta" is the Pali term for unconditional friendliness or loving-kindness, and is a form of blessing/meditation practice. it is sourced the Buddhist tradition, yet versions of it are found in many spiritual traditions, including Judaism and Celtic Christianity. It is an interspiritual practice that supports all theologies.
A "sitting" meditation/prayer form, Metta takes us through six levels of blessing: one's self, benefactors, loved ones, neutral persons (or strangers), difficult others, and, ultimately, all beings on Earth. It opens our hearts to ourselves and others in profound ways: healing wounds, inviting joy, creating loving regard and compassion for all beings.
In this day long "stay-at-home" retreat, you will will experience each of the six levels of blessing, with a particular focus on cultivating compassion for yourself. You will create sacred space for yourself, develop a "Metta Solar System," enjoy Mindful Eating and a Mindful Walk, be introduced to the "Metta Sutta" as a meditation tool, learn to "Make Your Own Metta," and receive guided instructions for how to offer blessings of compassion to all six levels of beings.
This gentle day "in" will allow you to create a rhythm between “doing” and “being” by listening to your inner wisdom. Choose your activities well. You will be encouraged to include resting, practicing Metta, walking meditation, journaling, reading, creative expression, time in nature, and/or self-care, whatever stirs your heart and provides spiritual nourishment.
