One-on-One Spiritual Direction & Guidance Counseling
with Jan Lundy
Q: How does a private spiritual direction/guidance session work?Spiritual Direction/Guidance can be short term or long term, depending on your needs and life circumstances. Sessions are 55 min. Meeting regularly (once a month) allows time for inner listening and discernment, for clarity and "wisdom skills" to build. I meet with people over the telephone and via Zoom.

I recommend meeting monthly for the most desirable and timely results. Doing so also provides a sense of "accountability"; that a caring guide is there to share your journey with; to offer insights, and suggestions to help you stay attuned to the sacred.
Q: What is a session like?
It is a time for you connect with the deepest and truest parts of yourself, so we usually begin by lighting a candle, and taking a few moments of silence to "slough off the world." This is a time of deep entrustment where you can share what is happening in your life: challenges, joys, sorrows, worries or fears. Persistent issues from the past can be discussed or dreams for the future. Everything we experience in life is central to our spiritual journeys, so anything can be discussed. (Sessions are confidential.)
In short, we begin where YOU are. My intention for myself as your guide/companion is to be fully present with you wherever you are. That's where we begin because it is your perfect place to be for now. A spiritual guidance session is about helping YOU discern the spiritual direction of your own life.
Through compassionate listening and non-judgmental presence, together, we will listen for the greater spiritual invitation of your current experience. I may suggest contemplative practices and other useful tools to help you establish sacred body connection, stabilize your mind, or open your heart. All practices/tools are interspiritual in nature and allow your body/mind to move into greater ease and understanding. Over time, you will learn to do this for yourself so can be your own wise guide.
After a session, you will hopefully feel greater calm and clarity. You will have gained insights for your ongoing journey—how to connect more fully with inner peace and joy. You will have received practical guidance, helpful suggestions, and a sense that you have been lovingly heard and unconditionally supported.

Q: Will I have "homework"?I will often make gentle suggestions (like a bit of reading or a tool to practice with), but not always. We will consistently focus on ensuring that you are engaging in what I call, "Extraordinary Mindful Loving Self-Care," which is one of the foundational practices of spiritual well-being. Any "homework" is never a chore, but an act of loving-kindness toward yourself. Together, we will cultivate transparency, mindfulness and self-compassion.

"I have been feeling so much calmer and open-hearted. The work with you is ongoing but I am feeling so positive about this commitment. I thank you for showing me the light and sharing your wisdom. It is making such a difference in my life already." |
Q: Is Spiritual Direction/Guidance different from coaching, therapy, or pastoral counseling?
Yes, it is. It is a unique one-on-one connection which requires specific training on the mentors' part and a different mind- and heart-set for all involved. Because I have been trained as both a spiritual director/guide and a pastoral counselor, my approach is rather a hybrid one, drawing upon resources from each in service of the individual.
Spiritual guidance and counseling as I offer it focuses on deepening your relationship with your spiritual self—the deepest part of you—and the Divine as you understand it. It invites you to move toward wholeness, slow the pace of your life, increase personal awareness, develop spiritual practices for well-being, understand your role in the greater cosmos, engage discerningly about lifestyle choices, embrace ways to live out your spiritual values and highest purpose. Spiritual guidance enables you to learn how to look for and listen to the movement of the Sacred in your life. This process seeks to ground and stabilize you while inviting you into greater levels of wakefulness and spiritual understanding.
Because I am trained in Pastoral Logotherapy (based upon the therapeutic principles offered by Viktor Frankl), we might also focus on "meaning". This may include discovering the meaning of the moment, especially in times of difficulty, transcending suffering, and orienting towards Ultimate Meaning or highest purpose.

Q: Can I have more contact with you than once a month?
I recommend once a month so you have time in between sessions to integrate what we have talked about and to pay attention to the sacred unfolding of your life. However, if you are in a time of crisis, we can certainly connect more often. Simply let me know of your need. Sessions are held Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. ET.
Q: Is there a cost for spiritual guidance?
I am a spiritual director and counselor in private practice, so, yes, there is a suggested fee for this service. I try to accommodate people of different income levels, so we can talk about your rate.
Q: How do I get started?
E-mail me here and I will respond. Most often, I suggest we have a short (15 min.) telephone conversation to determine what it is you are seeking and if we might be a good fit for this journey together.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Peace, Shalom, Om Shanti,
