Heart Relief

In today's blog I share some thoughts about we can ensure our hearts do not become armored in stressful times. If you're feeling impatient and irritated, or frustrated, it may be a sign that your heart is closing off due to low level trauma. (Many of us these days are experiencing low level trauma due to the pandemic.) This is the perfect time and opportunity to hold presence for yourself! The video includes one of my favorites practices for this.

From My Heart to Yours

Today, I have a gift for you, a guided meditation (MP3) that I call "Resting Into Love." During trauma-filled times, it's a potent practice for letting go into ease and rest, into Love!

Synchronicity has blessed me with these two nourishing practices from You just as covid-19-compassion-fatigue turned my heart to cardboard, Jan. Transfusion truly needed ...

A couple of days ago, I noticed that my lovingkindness reservoir had gotten awfully shallow. I resolved to follow in your wise footsteps with a weekend of healing retreat from the melée of the wide world. A weekend at least. Screenfree insofaras possible. What a relief to set busyness aside! When inner critic muttered somethin' about its being irresponsible and useless anyhow, given our times. I advised 'her' to trust me!

Dropped in here for guidance; what a GOOD move! I listened and followed gladly. Yes, befriending my cranky sadness and overtired helplessness with this Breath-Practice does a lot -- it's kind of like a self-tonglen! Backed up with the resting Meditation-into-Love, its power expands beautifully in me. Delicious as a saline IV-line for dehydration! Now the horrid (and draining) guilt re feeling snappish is fading.

As numbness and negativity leave me, there's a kind of natural response 'party': in flow the Serenity Prayer, and precious remembered mantras of guidance from Dame Julian, Ani Pema, Jack Kornfield, Janice Lynn Lundy -- purveyors of life itself. Light flows.

Actually, even metta felt like a chore for a bit. Now it's freshly present, and pleasant, in my pauses to reflect. Sweet to rediscover how minimal screentime, maximal snoozetime, and slow, soft self-care 'knit up the ravelled sleeve of care'! It's good to recall that the world and all those I care about will gain from my absence/respite time ... especially as opposed to the cranky alternative, eh.

Thumbs up to drawing back from the fray to reconnect within. As ever, thank you, dear JLL.

Kitty, I am glad you stopped by too! Delighted to know that holy synchronicity was in the ethers and that what I offered her helped a bit. These are not easy times in which to live and I'm getting more and more in touch with just how easy it is to numb out and close down. You are a seasoned practitioner so, likely, it was only a matter of time until you "opened up" to More. Thanks for commenting and sharing your story with me. xoxo
